Gentleman in Dark Blue Coat

The sitter's coat and the background are painted in bodycolour which gives a certain heaviness to the picture and contrasts with the gentleman's face which seems to be lightly drawn. Only a few of Amormino's miniatures are known. This portrait is one of his two works mentioned by Schidlof. Amormino's name appears in Augustin's student register circa 1814.¹ As his name was crossed out it remains questionable whether he actually studied with the famous teacher or whether he interrupted his studies.
