Louise Charlotte Friederike Boehmer, née Rudloff
Christian Ahrbeck
Louise Charlotte Friederike Boehmer, née. Rudloff (1778-1853) was a daughter of F. S. Rudloff, Kgl. Geh. Hofrath. She married in 1798 Johann Georg Böhmer, who had the function of a Regierungs- and Conferenzrath.1 The sitter wears a white shawl, embroidered with golden stars that correspond to the cloudy sky in the background. As another miniature from the Tansey Collection shows, the use of cool colours is characteristic of Hanover-born Ahrbeck.2 The contrast between the light and dark parts which dominates the overall impression of the picture is also present in the sitter's face, which is distinctly represented in yellowish and bluish shades. The cool colours beautifully emphasize the lady's grace, which is also underlined by her long hair and her shawl which is tenderly draped around her shoulders. Her curls and the curved lines of the shawl give the sitter a playful expression.
