The Foundation

In 1997 the Tanseys transferred a large part of their collection to a foundation (the “Stiftung Miniaturensammlung Tansey”). Since then it has been the subject of continual academic study and from the year 2000 onwards it has been presented to the public at Celle’s Bomann-Museum in exhibitions and accompanying catalogues.

Renaming the foundation “The Tansey Miniatures Foundation” in the year 2012 reflected the increasingly international nature of the collection and the sharing of information through a worldwide network of connoisseurs, collectors, friends of miniature painting, and other museums that house collections of miniatures.

History

Upon Lieselotte Tansey’s death in 2016, all remaining miniatures and all the specialist literature that was still in her private possession were transferred to the foundation.

Tasks

Its mandate is to continue the academic study of the collection and to make it accessible to the public through exhibitions, publications, special events and – since 2013 – also at international conferences. The foundation also frequently loans individual works to other museums around the world for exhibitions, and in doing so upholds the reputation and significance of the collection among international experts.
