Miniatures in a Minute_#003
Jean-Baptiste Isabey, Boy in a White Shirt
This miniature, which depicts an unknown boy, is an impressive example of Jean-Jacques Isabey’s talent for portraying female models and children gracefully and sensitively. With great sensitivity, the artist captured the boy’s childlike tenderness. The soft contours and shadows make his face look soft and delicate. The dark brown background enhances this impression even more. At the same time, it also makes the boy appear independent in his own childlike world. Isabey’s skill, grace, and finesse in the physiognomy of his portraits made him one of the leading Parisian miniature painters of his time.
