The Tansey Miniatures Foundation

Alois von Anreiter

Born into a family of Tyrolean artists, he was first active as a merchant and did not join the Viennese Academy until 1825, when he began studying historical painting under Nepomuk Ender and Johann Redl. He probably began to paint miniatures as early as during his student years, because even his first publicly exhibited miniatures received general acknowledgement due to their technical perfection. He completed his studies of miniature painting under Daffinger, whose work he copied and who influenced his style. Apart from aquarelle paintings, he also painted in oils. His customers belonged to the wealthy middle class, and many of them were also artists.
