Louis François Aubry

Aubry was a student of Vincent and Isabey; Isabey significantly influenced his technique and style. His artistic work is evidenced by his participation in exhibitions between 1798 and 1833. In 1808, he received a second class medal, and a first class one in 1828. In 1832, he was appointed knight of the Légion d’honneur. During the Restoration period, he created his major miniature portraits, some of them showing members of the highest aristocratic circles. Aubry’s role as a teacher was even more important: many of the miniaturists of his time were his students (some of whom surpassed him), for example Saint, Millet, and Meuret.
