Jeremiah Meyer

Meyer’s father, a portraitist who worked for the Duke of Württemberg, brought his son to London in 1749. He studied and at the St. Martin’s Lane Academy and with his compatriot Christian Friedrich Zincke. Possibly he was also a student of Reynolds. Between 1760 and 1767 he exhibited his paintings at the Society of Artists, which awarded him a gold medal in 1761. In 1764 Meyer was appointed enamellist to George III. He went on to become a founder member of the Royal Academy where he exhibited his miniatures, watercolours and enamels between 1769 and 1783.
