Cornelius Høyer

After 1755, Høyer studied at the Academy of Copenhagen and was a pupil of Andreas Thornborg in 1758. He received awards for his works in 1758, 1759 and 1763. In 1764 he was awarded a scholarship and travelled to Paris, where he became a pupil and collaborator of Jean-Baptiste Massé. Later Høyer travelled to Italy (1766-67) and Dresden (1767-68). Back in Copenhagen, he was employed as a court miniaturist by the Danish king. He was hired to work as a secretary at the Academy of Copenhagen in 1777, and was promoted to the rank of professor four years later. He lived in St. Petersburg (1781-83), and afterwards in Stockholm until 1785. He also travelled to Berlin and Weimar (1787-90). He then settled in Copenhagen, but made another journey to St. Petersburg from 1797 to 1798. Høyer was a member of the Academies of Copenhagen, Florence, Bologna, Berlin, St. Petersburg and Dresden.
