Jean-Antoine Laurent

Laurent was a pupil of Claudot and Durand in Nancy but later lived in Paris, where he exhibited his works between 1791 and 1831 at the Salon. He was a protégé of Napoleon’s first wife, Josephine, and her daughter Hortense. In 1808, he was decorated with an Honour Medal First Class for his works. In 1815, he was appointed curator of the museum in Épinal. In 1832, the year of his death, he was awarded the Legion of Honour. Apart from miniatures, Laurent also painted portraits and genre paintings in oils.
