Lady in White Dress with Pink Bows

This portrait of a young lady contains the typical elements of the Viennese “Biedermeier” portrait¹: the fashionable dress and accessories are painted with quick brushstrokes and the lights are whitened.The background shows a cloudy evening sky with an intimated landscape and architectural elements. The portrait was painted almost exclusively in tender pastels which makes it soft and delicate, thus underlining the tenderness of the sitter who is presented in an extravagant dress with precious jewellery.
