Veit Hans Schnorr von Karolsfeld

After studying law at the University of Leipzig, at around 1788, Veit Hans Schnorr dedicated himself to painting. Following periods spent in Königsberg and Magdeburg, he returned to Leipzig, where he took lessons from Adam Friedrich Oeser. He painted portraits in oils and miniature but also mastered techniques for producing prints and illustrated books for some of the time. His travels took him to many places in Germany, and in 1802 to Paris. In 1816, he was appointed director of the Leipzig Academy.
