Louis Marie Autissier
After receiving an education from Vautrin at the École des Beaux-Arts, Autissier served as a soldier. After being discharged, he settled in Brussels, where he quickly became famous for his miniatures. After the revolution, the artist assumed the first names of his father. He travelled through Belgium, the Netherlands, and France and exhibited successfully in Gent, Antwerp, Amsterdam, and Paris. In 1806, he became court painter to Louis Bonaparte, King of Holland, and in 1815, court painter to William I, King of the Netherlands. In addition to portraits, Autissier painted genre scenes in miniature. Autissier had many students, including Alexandre Delatour and Louis Henry Fontenay.
