Jean André Rouquet

This Genevan born artist moved to London around 1726 where he became a popular enamellist. He was a friend of William Hogarth and the actor Garrick. In around 1750 he left London for Paris where he was dubbed the “Raphael of enamel painting”. He became a member of the Royal Academy, was granted a flat in the Louvre by the king and exhibited his enamel portraits at the Salon in 1752, 1755 and 1757. Due to a mental disease he spent his last years in a home in Charenton.
