Giovanni Domenico Bossi

Bossi studied at the academy in Venice with Gian Domenico Tiepolo and later worked in Berlin (1789), The Hague (1791), Hamburg (1794–1796), Amsterdam (1795), and then in Stockholm (1796–1802), where he became a member of the academy in 1799 and attained the title of court painter. Bossi lived in St. Petersburg from 1802 to 1812 (with interruptions), where he was also appointed court painter. In 1812, he stayed in Paris; in 1813, in Venice and Munich; and from 1814 to 1830, in Vienna, where he was admitted into the academy in 1818 and showed his works in exhibitions from 1822 to 1826. In 1830, he moved to Regensburg, later to Ludwigslust, Hanover, Dresden, Hamburg (1833–36), Vienna (1836–40), and Munich, where he died in 1853.
