Charles Guillaume Alexandre Bourgeois

This miniaturist and copper engraver was also a chemist and wrote several theoretical treatises on colours. His portraits were shown at the Salon exhibitions from 1800 to 1824. They are particularly appreciated for their expressiveness, accurate and detailed workmanship, and, last but not least, for their colouring. Bourgeois rendered most of his portraits in profile on a black or blue ground.
