Johann Christian Fiedler
Before Fiedler became a miniaturist he studied law. Duke Augustus William of Brunswick arranged for a study visit in Paris (1720/21-24) where Fiedler was trained by Rigaud and Largilliere. After his studies he moved to Darmstadt and was appointed court painter in 1725 under the rule of Ernest Louis, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt and later under the rule of Louis XVIII. In 1754 he was appointed Cabinet and Court Painter. He painted miniatures, genre paintings and still lifes. Two self-portraits by Fiedler are owned by the Hessian State Museum.
