James Scouler
Scouler was the son of an organ-builder from Edinburgh and studied at the Duke of Richmond’s Gallery and the St. Martin’s Lane Academy. In 1755 he was awarded a prize by the Society of Arts, where he exhibited his works between 1761 and 1768. He also showed his paintings repeatedly at the Free Society of Artists from 1769 to 1776, and at the Royal Academy between 1780 and 1787. Scouler is thought to have visited India from 1779 to 1780.
