Jean-Baptiste Soyer

Jean-Baptiste Soyer was the son of Hubert Soyer and of Marguerite Loyal. After initial studies in Nancy with Claudot and Girardet, he worked in his hometown as a painter in oils, in gouache, and as a miniaturist. On April 14, 1788, he enters the school of the Paris Academy. He married Anne-Marie Willemet in 1790 and travelled to Basel in c. 1800. He exhibited his works at the Paris Salon from 1801 to 1810.
