Jules (Jean Marie) Vernet

From 1812 to 1843 Jules Vernet (baptised Jean Marie) submitted his works at the Paris Salon. He frequently portrayed actresses and actors, whose commissions were probably procured through his brother and his wife, who were both playwrights. He and his wife Marie Alexandrine Félicité Bonnet had several children. His son Alfred also became a miniaturist and later a photographer. Vernet’s technique is reminiscent of Aubry’s school. (We would like to thank Henry-Noel Canival, Paris, for new biographical information on this artist).
