François Hippolyte Desbuissons, called Hipolite

The miniaturist known as “Hipolite”, who frequently signed his works “Hipolite D.” or “h. D.”, was a member of the Académie de Saint-Luc in Paris and may have lived in Rouen for a time. In 1758 he appears to have been a protégé of Vien in the Royal Academy. He and his wife Catherine Françoise Huet had a son, Joseph-Auguste, who also called himself “Hipolite” and worked as an artist and actor. Most of the miniatures by François Hippolyte Desbuissons show monochrome profiles on a blue background.
