Augustin Dubourg (Georges Nicolas Toussaint Augustin)

Only since 2010 has it been known that this artist, working under the pseudonym “Augustin Dubourg”, was not in fact a cousin of the better known Jean-Baptiste Jacques Augustin but his elder brother, Georges Nicolas Toussaint (see Pappe 2010 and Pappe 2015). He married Jeanne Forestier in Vesoul, in 1778. Evidence shows that he was in Dijon from 1779 to 1784, in Lyon in 1783 and in Rouen in 1789. In 1791 he took part in the Paris Exposition de la Jeunesse, and he exhibited at the Salons of 1793, 1798 and 1800. His son Charles-Henri (1779–1819) also painted miniatures under the names of “Augustin fils”, “Augustin neveu” and “Augustin jeune”.
